Ahead of DeSantis’ keynote speech at the Florida Family Policy Council tonight, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried released the following statement:

“As women and families across Florida are suffering the devastating impacts of Ron DeSantis’s extreme abortion ban, DeSantis is busy taking a victory lap after successfully ripping away women’s ability to make their own health decisions and cozying up to anti-choice extremists who want to completely end abortion access nationwide. DeSantis has shown us time and time again that he’ll stop at nothing to chase after the MAGA base and boost his national ambitions at Floridians’ expense – and this is on his agenda if he becomes president.”

DeSantis has been in lockstep with the Florida Family Policy Council’s anti-abortion agenda:

  • Last month, DeSantis signed a six-week abortion ban behind closed doors, flanked by the same extremists he’s speaking in front of tonight.
  • Since signing the bill, DeSantis has been bragging about banning abortion in Florida before many women even know they’re pregnant.
  • The Florida Family Policy Council has called for a total national abortion ban.
  • Meanwhile, Florida women have already been forced to flee the state under the abortion ban DeSantis signed last year, which includes NO exceptions for rape or incest.
